Crochet - First Granny Squares

I started to learn to crochet just after Christmas and started a blanket - just stripe after stripe , after a few weeks I realised I was putting off carrying on with it as it had become monotonous.

After looking at other blogs I decided to try Granny Squares - It has taken me two weeks of trying and failing and trying and failing - I was just about to throw the whole lot through the window when it started to come together.

Here are my new squares and one part started for "The Blanket - Part Deux".

I hope they join together ok as they look a bit wobbly but thats a challenge for the future - I really look forward to my crochet now each night as I watch TV.

Anyway must go - I have to list some of our old things on ebay as I have blown the budget a bit this week !!!

We've bought an old cast iron fireplace for our bedroom and have to fetch that on Friday - I've bought some crochet patterns, workbox tin, old sewing box filled with sewing stuff and a new sewing box - none of which has been delivered yet.

I'm hoping they come tomorrow when Hubby is at work !!!

Will show you them when they arrive - but of course "I've had them for ages !!!"

Lovely, I am as ever jealous of anyone who can crochet - I don't have enough patience to persevere to try and pick it up!

I know all about blowing the budget though!

God bless,

They look great, and enjoying yourself is the main thing anyway!

I've been a bit naughty on ebay the last few days too and I know exactly what you mean about hoping the stuff arrives when your husband is out ;)

What this old thing? I've had it for years ... it's been at the back of the wardrobe. ;-)

I have to list stuff on eBay too - it takes soooo long though, doesn't it?

Your crochet looks fabulous. Well done. x

I have started some granny squares too, aren't they quick!! I hope to make a blanket eventually. Yours are a lovely colour combination.
Like the sound of the fireplace, and I'm another one who'd like to see it!

I'm a big fan of ebay and often get caught out by hubby being home when the parcels arrive! Really like the colours of your granny squares - well done on persevering (is that spelled correctly?)

Great squares. I started one but then got distracted and never went back to it. Must restart it.
As for buying things, well I have the advantage that my man works away for a month at a time. ;)

Your granny squares look great, I love the colours. I always say I've had things for ages, that's the trouble with ebay, too tempting and then it's a pain if they get delivered on a Saturday!

Have a look at Echoes of a Dream for a crochet pattern for a pot holder. It looks quite simple although she did find some mistakes in it. Gives you the chance to do a bit of shaping.

I sent your package last week. Monday or Tuesday, I think. I am hoping you will receive it anytime, although with the snow delays there I am not sure.

Thanks again for the dusters, I just cannot use them for dusting! Too beautiful. I just received the new Cath catalogue and I am in Pretty Print heaven!

Let me know when the package arrives.

Love the granny sqaures. I've made a couple before...I must have another go!

Brill, I found an old cast iron fireplace for our bedroom too from some bloke down the road. I was chuffed to bits because it cost us £50. The last time I bought a fireplace for our old bedroom it cost us £450!
